Which studio version for Compiler 5?

We have a project using a Qualcomm 429 chip with 4x Arm® Cortex®-A53 Processor.  The build script requires Compiler 5 in our build toolchain.  We do not need to debug or profile these, just build.  The source code for these was delivered to us. We would only ever make very minor changes, not full development.

I found the comparison chart What can I do with my Gold, Silver or Bronze Arm Development Studio license article, but it does not specify any actual compiler features.  It seems like some Cortex-A can be built with Bronze, but others cannot.  I don't want to purchase a silver or gold license if a bronze will do.

How do I find out which compiler license will work for me?

  • More information.  We previously purchased a Gold license, but I have no idea how we came to that conclusion.  Now that it expired we get the error:

    ARM C/C++ Compiler, 5.01 [Build 94]
    Error: C9932E: Cannot obtain license for Compiler (feature compiler5) with license version >= 5.0201203
    Feature has expired.
    Feature:       compiler5
    Expire date:   31-may-2024

  • Hello Brent,

    Arm Development Studio is now only available as the Gold Edition, but also supports our latest user-based licensing (UBL) technology:

    https://developer.arm.com/Tools%20and%20Software/Arm%20Development%20Studio#Editions

    For the Gold/Silver/Bronze editions, Bronze supported the most mature processors, including Cortex-A53.

    However, I see that you are looking to build code using Arm Compiler 5. This is a legacy compiler, that does not support UBL technology :-(

    It should still be possible to purchase older license types (Node-locked or Floating license server) if needed, but these are no longer standard products.

    I recommend contacting your local Arm tools distributor, or direct Arm representative to discuss.
