I just downloaded the new CMSIS specification and it decompresses to a .pack file. How does one unpack such a file?

you can just rename the file to .zip and unpack it then.
The .pack is a software pack according to the CMSIS-Pack standard.

Thank you for that help, however after I rename the file to "zip" extension and try to extract the contents I get an error that the file "CFFTQ15.gif" is corrupt.
Anyone else having this issue?
One more thing ... the above failure was followed by several others and the "Device" folder was not extracted.
I don't get any issues when unpacking with 7zip.
Thank you for the pointer. I downloaded 7-zip and almost all files extracted. One file showed an error still:
