Introducing Arm’s Functional Safety Partnership Program

Antonio Priore
Antonio Priore
August 7, 2019

Arm is proud to announce the launch of its Functional Safety Partnership Program which brings together partners in Arm’s broad ecosystem who specialize in the area of functional safety and can reliably support our customers with industry-leading functional safety services, tools and training.

As Arm remains committed to functional safety through a number of key initiatives and products, we’re also aware that driving functional safety at an industry level requires collaboration and expertise. This is especially true when industries are facing big challenges like the enablement of autonomous driving in automotive, smart factories in industrial, predictive technologies in medical and reducing cost in aerospace. Furthermore, the current entropy in the market is such that there exists an increasing number of customers who are only coming to know about functional safety in recent times, as they move from market segments that did not have safety requirements, such as mobile and other consumer products.

With our ecosystem of thousands of partners, we understand it can sometimes be difficult for customers to find the right partners with the right experience and expertise in the field of functional safety. By launching this new program, we aim to make the process easier and quicker, providing our customers with the right support and ultimately shortening the time to market for their functional safety product.

Arm is an advocate for an holistic approach to functional safety and we understand the importance of having somebody that can look at the ‘big picture’ and ensure that there are no loose ends or cracks in a functional safety concept consisting of, often, hundreds of different hardware and software elements that need to comprehensively deliver the safety functions needed to minimize the risk of hazards to people and/or the environment. The Arm functional safety partners can help our customers achieve that.

A Portfolio of Small and Big Players in the Ecosystem, Brought Together in One Visible Platform

Arm’s Functional Safety Partnership Program showcases a range of functional safety partners who specialize in areas of software and tools, design services and training services.

Arm Functional Safety Partner software and tools

Software and Tools Partners

An Arm partner in this category is expected to deliver functional safety products on Arm such as RTOS and libraries but also offline tools such as compilers, modelling tools and verification tools.

These partners will offer:

  • Products that have been pre-certified or assessed for safety
  • Part of a functional safety solution on Arm

Current partners include:

  • CoreAVI
  • Green Hills Software
  • Cadence
  • LDRA
  • Mentor
  • Parasoft

Design Services Partners

These are Arm partners that offer services to help customers who need to integrate Arm ‘Safety Ready’ IP in larger SoCs and ensure this happens in compliance with functional safety standards and the information contained in the safety documentation package of the IP. They also meet the needs of customers who need to integrate Arm IP and software products e.g Software Test Libraries (STLs) in a larger SoC.

The partners can:

  • Provide an understanding of Arm safety claims for IP
  • Suggest integration requirements
  • Develop SoC safety concepts
  • Integrate safety analysis
  • Provide validation of assumptions of use
  • Derive quantitative failure rates and SoC FMEDA
  • Integrate STL with SoC level ones or create SoC level ones including Arm ones
  • Include integration with third party RTOS
  • Customize STL for applications
  • Run fault injection campaign to prove coverage

Current partners include:

  • Encore Semi
  • Inomize
  • ResilTech
  • EnSilica
  • Mobica
  • Mentor

Training Services Partners

These Arm partners provide training for functional safety on Arm relating to specific IPs.

Training services will cover:

  • How Arm functional safety packages can be used
  • The safety features of particular Safety Ready products
  • How the results of safety analyses for specific IP should be integrated at a system level

Current partners include:

  • Encore Semi
