Arm at MWC Shanghai - Day One Highlights

Irene Yu provides a quick glance of the news and activity highlights for Arm at Mobile World Conference Shanghai 2017 from Wednesday, June 28th. This is the very first year that Arm has a presence at MWC Shanghai as an exhibitor!

About MWC Shanghai 2017

MWC Shanghai 2017 kicked off on June 28, 2017 in Shanghai. This year more than 65,000 attendees from over 100 countries/regions are expected to visit the event, according to GSMA. For the first time, MWC has extended its conference programs to three days, and will open its “Experience Halls” for four days across seven halls in the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC), MWC Shanghai 2017 has attracted around 1,000 exhibitors across the world.

Highlights

Arm Highlights

  • Ian Smythe, senior director of marketing programs, Compute Products Group (CPG), was invited to a press briefing session organized by GSMA. He introduced the most recently published AI survey report and shared some key findings from the survey, followed by a conversation around Arm’s CPU roadmap and how Arm would address the opportunities and challenges for AI and server applications. Key messages:
    • Arm DynamIQ technology and how it could boost AI performance both in CPU and system.
    • The Arm ecosystem is working together to enable high performance, power efficient Arm-based solutions, including hardware and software, for the server domain.
  • IN THE FUTURE, a content blog created by Tech Mahindra and The Wall Street Journal’s WSJ.Custom Studios, visited the Arm booth and interviewed Ian, who introduced what Arm is demonstrating at MWC Shanghai and highlighted the company’s visionary goal for the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other applications.
  • Kuwan Media (Kuwan means “cool play” in Chinese), the IT channel of people.com.cn, invited Arm to a video interview at their booth at MWC Shanghai. Edwin Duthie, a senior engineer at Arm, showcased the real-time calorie counter demo to demonstrate how it works, along with discussing the Arm technologies; Arm NEON, Arm Mali and Arm Compute Library, that are deployed in the product.
  • Demo Live streaming via Yizhibo
  • CCTV visited the Arm booth where Irene Yu displayed Arm-based technology demonstrations including robot, real-time calorie counter and VR glasses, and how Arm believes that its technologies will benefit our day to day life, giving an easy-to-understand view of what Arm is doing to make our lives better.

Partner Highlights

  • Alibaba, HP and Intel today together launched their “Cloud-based All-In-One Education Solution”. Leveraging the three companies' respective strength, the solution connects chips, hardware, software, cloud services and compute platforms, and integrates system and services, enabling a secure and customizable cloud-based All-In-One solution that is expected to drive the upgrade of the education ecosystem. The HP YunOS Book 10 G1 2-in-1 tablet was demonstrated, based on Intel Atom X5 platform.
  • Qualcomm joined Okii, a leading Chinese smart phone watch maker, for an announcement at Okii’s booth that Okii will use Snapdragon Wear 2100 Platform for its latest “Little Genius Aphone Watch Z3”.
  • Vivo demonstrated innovations such as a new DSP chip-based photography technology, a new Hi-Fi solution with customized DAC decoder chip and Headphone Amplifier. It also unveiled the world’s first invisible fingerprint technology. This technology is based on Qualcomm’s second generation ultrasound fingerprint identification solution. This breakthrough technology is expected to be adopted by smart devices in production in H1/2018.
