Staffan: great try, but not good enough. Spending the usual wasted time trying to decipher Stupid Monkey S*** I actually managed to understand what you wrote. Better luck next time :) Erik
"the simulator that i am using uses only hex files" if u hv UV2/UV3 it dont need hex for sim! sim frm hex givs no symbl/src info = rubbish! use UV2/UV3 sim = better!
Your scheme is terribly inefficient. Instead, you should just assign a number to all possible replies. Since this question, and a few others, are extremely common, Huffman-coding the response index is clearly called for. Therefore, the answer to the original question should simply be: 6. Jon can help by maintaining the Huffman table on the Keil website. And perhaps the forum software could be smart enough to parse the responses and just link the appropriate table entry for convenience.
Actually, I have considered writing an SMS decoder. However, I'm too busy doing anything else that I can find to do. I have also considered adding a text re-encoder (so i2c becomes I²C and so on). This may have more merit. Jon
