Best way to make 250ns period

I found this code:

normally the __nop's were _nop_() but that was for c51 code. So I thaught this would work, but it doesn't. My project does compile, but it's like the nop's are ignored. I have this code wich toggles a LED on my board:

                NOPS(getal);

}

When I comment the NOPS() macro's above, the LED still toggles at the same speed. Without these NOPS the toggling period is about 60 ns (a little longer for falling edge). 1 clock period = 1/48MHz = 20,83 ns
When I put 12 nops my toggling period would have to be 250ns. But it doesn't seem to do that...
