Drivers for Performance Analysis Tool (Mali 400)

Note: This was originally posted on 3rd October 2011 at http://forums.arm.com

Hi All,
I am a little bit confused about this driver issue. I want to use Performance Analysis Tool. In optimization guide it is stated that in order to collect hw counter data it is necessary to use instrumented drivers. Also it is stated that these drivers are vendor provided. Is it possible to use  Mali GPUs Linux Device Drivers r2p0-05rel0 to do that?

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

the instrumentation part is implemented in the userspace libraries, e.g. libGLESv2.so, so you need your vendor to supply you with binary libraries for your device built to support instrumentation. The kernel module (mali.ko) is not affected by instrumentation and can remain unchanged.

    Thanks Pete.
To run an app in instrumented mode, I need to use only those userspace libraries supplied by vendor, right? Let's say I have a phone and i want to do some instrumentation on my app to take some GPU measurements the only thing I need to do using userspace instrumented drivers (*.so libraries).

I hope I did not get it wrong.
