Dr. Ludmila (Lucy) Cherkasova is ACM Distinguished scientist with a 20+ year track record of innovative research, including development and productization of next-generation technologies. In 2018, she joined Arm Research, as a principal research scientist. Her current charter is to analyze emerging and future technology trends, identify technology gaps, and initiate research projects to fill those gaps. Enable and exploit the future opportunities in IoT space and predict their effects on future ARM products. Closely collaborate with product development teams and a large network of external researchers in both industry and academia, to shape ARM efforts at the early stages of development. Engage with the academic network to influence the innovative system research.
Before that she was a principal scientist at Hewlett Packard Labs. She is computer systems expert focusing on the end-to-end performance, automation, dependability and cost-effectiveness of the enterprise and web-based systems. Contributed to the development of quantitative methods of the analysis, design and management of concurrent and distributed systems. Initiated, managed and led to success multiple R&D projects, with prototypes, algorithms, or features implemented in HP products. Authored more than 100 referred publications, inventor of 79 granted patents (out of 99 filed patents), mentored 25 PhD students during their summer internship at Arm Research and HP Labs. Earned six Best Paper Awards, Test of Time Award, and multiple ACM, IEEE and Usenix Certificates of Appreciation. Invited/keynote speaker at 8 international conferences. The most recent works were on design of new technologies for efficient performance management of large-scale data intensive applications, enterprise applications in the next generation data centers with emphasis on virtualization, automation, and resource allocation issues.
