John F. Brown III built his career around computer architecture and processor design. He is currently Sr. Principal Researcher in Machine Learning at Arm, tasked with building university and industry collaborations, and, leading a team in Cambridge, UK with research projects aimed at fundamental ML technology, end-to-end application proof of concept, and ML workload performance optimization.
He served as VP of IC Engineering at a startup, Tilera Corp., developing industry-leading manycore processors and earning the EE Times ACE award for Design Team of the Year in 2012 before the company was acquired by Mellanox via EZchip. As a Fellow at AMD, John led the architecture development of an Athlon 64 processor for desktop applications. Mr. Brown served as Director of Logic & Architecture, producing the C5 Network Processor at an earlier startup, C-Port Corporation, that was acquired by Motorola in 2000. From 1980-1998 John worked at Digital Equipment Corporation where he contributed to VAX and Alpha processors. As a Consulting Engineer, he managed the design team for the Alpha 21066 microprocessor that powered the Multia MultiClient winning NT desktop product of the year in 1994. He holds eleven patents and has authored several publications related to CPU architecture and design verification. Mr. Brown holds a BS and an MEng in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.
