Arm Pelion IoT Platform delivers flexible, secure and efficient device-to-data solution for IoT

The real value of the Internet of Things (IoT) lies just beneath the surface of billions of IoT devices being deployed in networks around the world: it’s the data that lies untapped (or unknown) inside those devices. However, until now, the complexity and diversity of so many different technologies and vendors required to deploy effective IoT solutions at scale has made implementation more of a vision rather than a reality. Challenges come in many forms: including a wide variety of device classes (everything from an ultra-constrained sensor to a large edge gateway), multiple connectivity protocols (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G, LoRa, etc.), multiple deployment options (on-premise or over cloud), and a vast volume of raw data that needs to be processed to deliver real value.

Organizations need their IoT platform to manage all of this diversity and complexity from the device to the data. That’s why we’re excited to announce the Arm Pelion IoT Platform, the industry’s first end-to-end IoT connectivity, device and data management platform for hybrid environments that will enable organizations to approach this fragmented and often frustrating landscape and derive real business value. The platform was born through the recent acquisitions of Treasure Data and Stream, as well as innovation within Arm. It delivers the flexibility, security and efficiency needed to unlock value from IoT devices and data.

The end-to-end Pelion IoT Platform will provide the following capabilities so that IoT customers can obtain insights based on a combination of trusted data from connected devices and enterprise data.

  • A unified security model that is integrated into device and data lifecycle from manufacturing process to data transfers to retiring devices.
  • A "single pane of glass" for a comprehensive management view of the connected IoT landscape so operators can make decisions in real time.
    • Simplified management and billing that providing a unified view that shows all connectivity, device usage and costs.
    • Provides an ability to switch between connectivity and device management perspectives.
  • Optimize data traffic for control and data planes by leveraging connectivity service.
  • Common platform abstractions allowing deployments in different hybrid environments.

The information below provides a deeper look into the connectivity, device and data management capabilities that we’re offering through the Pelion IoT platform.

Connectivity Management capabilities

  • Enables IoT devices to be connected and managed wherever they would be deployed throughout their lifecycles.
  • One global mobility contract, fully-managed, cost-effective service and support for enterprises, OEMs, system integrators and other partners.
  • eSIM orchestration allowing devices to be easily onboarded on more than 600 provider networks using cellular, LoRa, and satellite connectivity protocols.
  • Out-of-the-box connectivity management using an overlay on existing infrastructures and systems.
  • A single interface for management of connectivity, billing, and connectivity analytics insights.

Device Management capabilities

  • Manage a vast range of IoT devices efficiently and flexibly, establish trusted relationships and manage security, and update devices in the field.
  • Supports device diversity across all ranges of device classes including ultra-constrained, constrained, mainstream and rich node/gateways eliminating complexity.
  • Flexible deployment options including on-premise, public and private cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Secure onboarding, provisioning, over-the-air updates, lifecycle management and best-in-class security enablement to mitigate device vulnerabilities.
    • Trusted TLS security communication that ensures device and data trust.
    • Integration with our Platform Security Architecture (PSA) to build security in from the device to the data and throughout the journey.

Data Management capabilities

  • End-to-end data pipeline enabling data collection from any source, unification of IoT and enterprise data across any format and time period, and analysis through direct connections to BI tools.
  • Schema-less ingestion of trusted data from a heterogeneous array of connected devices (ultra-constrained sensors to a large edge gateways).
  • Integration and storage of large volumes of data for enterprises from disparate sources (device, enterprise and third party).
    • Handles two million events a second and processes hundreds of thousands of queries and 50 trillion records a day enabling organizations to obtain valuable insights at scale.
  • Securely deliver actionable, trusted data through encryption in transition and at rest, as well as control of permissions and access to the data.

How does the Pelion IoT Platform further Arm’s IoT Strategy?

The Pelion IoT Platform together with Arm’s IoT device IP, Kigen, Mbed OS and PSA provides the industry’s only IoT solution that securely addresses complexity from the device to the data and everything in between. Customers now have the technology to securely deploy, connect and update their devices faster, as well as more quickly access their trusted, usable IoT data.

Summiting the mountain

As we as an ecosystem reduce barriers to IoT deployment and device-to-data usage, countless companies will accelerate time-to-value of their data. The Pelion IoT Platform is the IoT solution that is helping organizations manage their IoT devices and data to unlock insights, and in turn, use those insights to unlock value for their businesses and their customers.
