Hello
I have seen many job offers for firmware engineers or other low level variants in the world of embedded that require you to know keil ide.
Why would this be so important? What does keil have that others may not have? I'm surprised knowing how to work with This ide is part of the requirements, is it that much more complicated than any other ide ( like choose composer studio from ti, that I really like)?
Hi, johnwalher1!IMHO Keil IDE is so popular because :1. Is one of the firsts that came to the market2. Is very intuitive, shortening the learning curve3. The compiler is one of the bests. ( This isn`t IDE but contributes to fame ).4. It`s very easy to use, though has limitations that many others had overcome yet.
since it takes (at least for me) less than a day to get up to speed with another IDE I just ignore IDE requests in job ads. At the interview "I have worked with several, they are all similar, should not be a probem"
...thanks for summarizing
Another advantage is that Keil offers a professional Support with i.e.:
- a Support Team
- Live Chat
- Video tutorials ( i.e. http://www2.keil.com/video )
- Documentation ( i.e. https://www2.keil.com/mdk5/install )
Order a free of charge 30-days limited MDK-Pro license key at your local distributor:

>>Why would this be so important?
a) That's what they currently use, and have history with, or customer expectations with.
b) They aren't interested in training you, and want productivity from day-one.
c) They have another candidate in mind, and need reasons not to pick someone else.

There's a clue in the name, there!
Code Composer Studio is TI's IDE for use with their products - so it's clearly not a choice for any of the vast number of non-TI products!
