I KEEP GETTING FATAL ERROR WHEN I TYPE A51 AT MY COMMAND LINE.
I GET TERMINATED.
WHY?
Your shift key seems to be stuck. But I digress.
When you type only "A51" at the command line, you run the A51 assembler - without telling it which file to process. Since there is nothing meaningful for it to do, it prints an error message and exits.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish by running the A51 assembler from the command line ? Usually, the assembler is called by the IDE. Except for experimentation, there are very few reasons to actually run the assembler "by hand".
HOW DO I GET ULTRAEDIT TO DO IT?
your humor is appreciated, however, that does not reduce the anoyance of reading what you are typing in all CAPITALS which makes your posts difficult to read.
In addition, many consider CAPITALS 'shouting' and consider that very impolite.
Erik
PS "*** bekind the keyboard" is a phrase more modern than "garbage in = garbage out" i.e. if you do not use the proper command line you will not get the expected result.
"anoyance of reading what you are typing in ALL CAPITALS"
Especially as it's been pointed out to you at least twice already!
1. The Keil A51 manual, to tell you how to correctly form an A51 command line;
2. The Ultraedit manual, to tell you how to get it to run a 3rd-party command line such as A51.
Note that uVision shows you the command options that it sets up - so, if you like GUIs and IDEs, you could try configuring your projuect in uVision first to tell you what command-line options to use!
See: http://www.keil.com/support/man/docs/uv3/uv3_dg_a51.htm (read the very last line of the text)
I TRY AND FAIL USING ULTEREDIT BCOZ I THINK THERE ARE TO MANY BUGS.
IVE BEEN TOLD THAT VS CODEWRITE ARE BETTER EDITOR. I SEE IF IT WORKS.
TANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
Given your complete inablility to understand simple instructions like do not write in ALL CAPTALS, I very much doubt that this is anything to do with any inadequacy of the Ultraedit documentation - let alone bugs in the product!
"IVE BEEN TOLD THAT VS CODEWRITE ARE BETTER EDITOR."
I certainly like it - but I have no idea how it compares to Ultraedit, as I've never tried that.
"I SEE IF IT WORKS."
Yes, it does work. But you are still going to have to follow the same process of reading both manuals and following their instructions!
"IVE BEEN TOLD THAT VS CODEWRITE<sic> ARE BETTER EDITOR." I have never used Ultra Edit, but I can wouch for CodeWright not "CODEWRITE" being just great, I would use no other. When I change location, it is my first statement: "If you do not have a CodeWright for me, (I will not bootleg) order it"
PS Given your complete inablility to understand simple instructions If you persist in using CAPITALS, I will not try to help you any more.
But you will still have to do one more favor, Erik. You will have to scan through the manual for the page with the list of bugs in CodeWright - it shouldn't take too long until you get a request for it :)
I DONT KNOW CODEWRIGHT.
IT IS VS CODEWRITE THAT I AM GOING TO TRY. APERENTELEY IT IS FREE AND GOOD AND NOT SO BUGGED!
I LET YOU KNOW MY RESULT WHEN I TRY.
IF NO GOOD I LOOK AT CODEWRIGHT. BUT IT LOOKS VERY OLD AND EXPENSIFE I THINLK/.
TNANX FOR YOUR PHELP.
from my post before the garbage above Given your complete inablility to understand simple instructions If you persist in using CAPITALS, I will not try to help you any more.
PS all capitals does not become garbage till requests to desist are ignored
the story of CodeWright
a group of great people made an excellent editor called 'brief' (anyone remember that one?).
Borland got upset that so many stated that 'brief' was much better than the pitiful Borland editor and the solution was to buy the company that made 'brief' and discontinue 'brief'.
Some of the people from 'brief' then started to make CodeWright with all that 'brief' could and more.
Borland got upset that so many stated that CodeWright was much better than the pitiful Borland editor and the solution was to buy the company that made CodeWright and discontinue CodeWright.
That created such an uproar that Borland started shipping it again, but AFAIK they have now reverted to their old habits and discontinued it again.
PS: if you want the, in my opinion, best editor ever, Amazon has 3 left - hurry.
Erik,
I've been trying to ignore this quite bizarre thread, but you fired up my interest!
I remember Brief - Originally written by a company called UnderWare (or rather, at the time I bought a copy, it was them). I always thought the naming was a lovely pun!
For years, I've been wanting an editor that was as comfortable to use as Brief. I've tried quite a few: amongst them one called Crisp which has pretty good Brief emulation and recently SlickEdit which is not so good.
For a reason I can't remember, I decided not to follow up on CodeWright.
Question - Is it really as close to Brief as is suggested? By that, I mean, does it have very good emulation of the original Brief key combinations or does it approximate some?
David.
In conjunction with a job change I lost my beloved brief (I am an ardent non-bootlegger). Thus I started with CodeWright, oh how long ago was that?, using brief emulation for a while (I do not recall any problems). Then I worked with someone that used CodeWright in 'native mode' and, for fun, we did a couple of things with CodeWright and brief we actually found and used a copy of brief.
Even old dogs can learn new tricks and I switched to CodeWright in 'native mode' because I got convinced it was better (could do all brief could and more).
Since then I have only fond memories of brief and have forgotten more than I ever knew about it.
HI AGAIN,
I TRY VS CODEWRITE BUT IT HAS A BIG SERIOUS BUG! IT DOES NOT DO CODE FOL:DING.
ULTRAEDIT IS LESS BUGGED.
I TRY TO FIND CODEWRIGHT DEMO BUT NOT YET. HOPE IT IS NOT BUGGY.
HI POEPLE,
WHERE CAN I GET A DEMO COPY OF CODEWRIGHT. I DONT WANT TO PAY UNTIL I KNOW IT IS NOT SO BUGGED.
Use Notepad. It is free!
BUT NOTEPAD IS BUGED AS WELL. IT HAS NOT CODE FOLDING AND YOU CANNOT CALL A51 FROM INSIDE.
IS CODEWRIGHT ON TOOCOW?
if you want answers repost
TNAX FOR YOUR HELP EVERONE
I FOUND EDITOR CALLED TEXTPAD, I GIVE IT A TRY NOW
I FOUND EDITOR CALLED TEXTPAD
I wish you luck. If you read the manual for textpad the same way you read posts here, I suggest you go buy a broom.
It doesn't matter how many editors you try.
Keil most probably have the only editor with built-in integration for the assembler. With any other editor (even if it has code folding) you will fail to integrate the Keil tools. Then you will post that the editor is buggy. Then you will start looking for another editor.
How many weeks will this continue? With a better focus, you would have managed quite a lot of actual development by now.
LEVIT ROON,
If you try TEXTPAD and consider it buggy, I suggest you look here for a few others alternatives:
www.nonags.com/.../texted32.html
If all of these are BUGED, maybe you should just google for 'text editor'. You'll find a lot more to try.
Please don't feel obliged to post your findings for each and every one of them here.
If all of these are BUGED I'm sure they are, they will all have the "bug" that if you do not follow the instructions, they do not work.
If all of these are BUGED
I'm sure they all are, they will all have the 'bug' that if you do not follow the instructions, they do not work.
"I'm sure they all are..."
Almost certainly - But it may take him quite a long time to check each and every one before shouting out here again with his utter nonsense ;)
not a futile hope, I hope.
