FWICT it is currently mostly commercial implementations.

The other option is a software model of a system which can run Linux, etc. ARM have some quite good system models that run at 150MHz simulated speed or so, which are good for development. Drop ARM support an email, and mention you are from a university.[/size][/font][/color]
