Older versions of Cortex-M0 DesignStart required obtaining an Intel® Altera® Quartus Prime partial reconfiguration license. However this is no longer necessary with the latest DesignStart packages. See below for further information.
For the Cortex-M0 DesignStart delivered as Application Note AN387 in the MPS2 Board deliverables, the customization process relies on technology supplied by Altera’s Quartus FPGA design tool called Partial Reconfiguration. To build the FPGA files for this version of DesignStart, the user requires access to Intel Altera Quartus Prime Standard Edition version 15.1 and needs an additional partial reconfiguration feature license (available free from Arm).
The latest Cortex-M0 DesignStart and Cortex-M3 DesignStart do not use the partial reconfiguration technology, so the feature license is not required. FPGA configuration and image build for the latest versions of DesignStart can be achieved using the latest free Quartus Prime Lite edition.
