How Can We Create a Resilient, Sustainable Future? - Dr Emily Shuckburgh, Cambridge Zero

This talk was presented at the virtual Arm Research Summit, September 9-11, 2020. This year's event explored global technology challenges across sustainability, security, and society, and attracted delegates from around the world for three days of innovative content.

As we look to emerge from the Coronavirus pandemic stronger and more resilient, we must face head-on the threats posed by growing social inequality, the destruction of nature, and climate change. The scale and pace of what is needed to respond to the climate and environmental emergency is daunting. Computer science and technology has much to offer in terms of assessing and monitoring the risks and in contributing to a wide-range of sustainable solutions from a zero-carbon energy transformation to the creation of a circular economy and a re-visioning of mobility and urban design.
