ARM, Renault and OSVehicle push the boundaries of automotive development

I’m very delighted to share our announcement with Renault at CES. This is the first time for ARM to announce a partnership with a big car OEM.

This announcement is a new strategic partnership between ARM, Renault, OSVehicle and other partners about open-innovation and open-source projects to figure out new ways of thinking about mobility.

Many automotive and tech companies are developing autonomous cars today and people believe it is “innovation." Yes it is, but not the only one. There are other innovations in the automotive space. Once automakers address developing autonomous cars, they start to re-think what mobility is and what they can do as a mobility company to improve our life with technologies.

People need more mobility in big cities, more transportation in emerging markets, and a robust platform to modify these vehicles when starting a new business. Each demand is relatively small but huge demands are tighter. To reach out to such niche markets, ARM, Renault and OSVehicle tied up together and provided a platform based on Renault Twizy with bodywork parts removed and an open-source automotive platform supplied by OSVehicle.  What’s new here is Renault opens up vehicle information of the CAN network to developers.

OSVehicle develops the open-source platform readily accessible to the community, and also provides on-demand design and engineering services for complete personalization. Developers can then develop new hardware and software based on ARM technologies, then start their own business. Twizy is a very simple car and does not have ADAS or infotainment system. You can develop the ADAS or infotainment system by yourself using vehicle information from CAN network, and you can provide related safety services. No limitations, you can enjoy developing new stuff!

ARM, Renault and OSVehicle are trying to push the boundary of automotive development with open platform through this partnership. The door of innovation is opened, you can now enter the new world of automotive with your innovation.
