Omniplug Technologies is a Cambridge (UK) based startup that aims to make it cheap and easy to get media on and off of portable devices. To achieve this, we have built the RatPlug. The RatPlug is a universal charger that connects to the internet, uploading and downloading pictures, videos and podcasts to any USB device while you charge the battery. It uploads your pictures to Facebook and downloads albums from your NewsFeed automatically. It can also download videos and podcasts from any internet server. The result is that when your device is charged up with power, it is also charged up with a fresh set of media content. The RatPlug offloads this mobile content onto the fixed broadband network, saving 97% of the cost of the cellular equivalent. Because it is a simple charger with a low power ARM-based processor, it also saves more than 80% of the power of a PC or laptop doing the same job. Omniplug's patent-pending system and method allows any USB device to use any RatPlug to upload and download any internet content. Our technology answers the question "how does it know what to download?"
